Focus of the Korean Register
The Korean Register (KR) was first established in 1960 in Korea as a non profit making organization. The intention for the KR was to become a leading ship classification society and this was achieved successfully. The Korean Register aims to ensure and develop the safety of ships and the prevention of pollution at sea.
Further to this, the KR aims to continually develop all technology and human resources related to the shipping, industrial services and shipbuilding industries.
As a member of IACS – International Association of Classification Societies, the Korean Register is well regarded worldwide. The KR is also listed in the Institute Classification Clause (ICC) and these memberships prevail the high standards maintained by the KR. With 47 offices located across the globe, and with over 2,550 ships in its registry, the KR is respected as an internationally leading ship classification society.
The main focus of the Korean Register is to offer verification and certification services to all ships, marine structures and ship designs in Korea. Additionally, the KR is strongly invested in research and development in a bid to promote, develop, monitor and maintain their classification rules.
